Living and laughing with a disability

Troy and Jodie

My name is Jodie Wittren (Hildenbrand).  My husband, Troy, and I have been married since 1990, but we first met when I was  four and he was three, where we both attended Holladay Center.  In the 60's and 70's, Holladay Center was a Montessori style school for physically disabled students, with an emphasis on therapy - physical, occupational and speech.

I was born weighing less than two pounds, and I had multiple surgeries as a child in order to maximize my mobility.  I use crutches  to get around.   I work as an office manager for a state child welfare office.

Troy was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck.  The way he walks and talks are affected, but he manages to get around well.  He works as an eligibility specialist at a state child welfare office.

We met up again at a support group I was running at New Hope Community Church.  We married in 1990, and in 1995 our son was born.  He does well in school.  He plays baseball, football and basketball.

Between work and all of our son's activities, our life is very busy.
